Built by the Romans, this was supposed to be a military settlement, on the strategic road from Bordeaux to Lyon. Duravel saw its remains disappear because of religion wars in 1596. In the 11th C., Duravel has a priory which depends from the abbey of Moissac. It was founded by Clovis and restored by Charlemagne. It is one of the most important Quercy monuments in roman art. Its 11th C. crypt holds the Holy Bodies of three oriental hermits. Every five years, the relics are walked throughout the city’s streets.
